Lauren is a writer, actor, producer and director. She currently has several sketch comedy and film projects in development and production including: the musical docuseries Black Melodies (Open TV), the musical comedy Art is Charisma, the bible-study comedy Connect Group, and the live sketch comedy show #The Resistance (The PIT Theater). Her passion as a storyteller is to tell stories of people of color exploring and wrestling with issues of identity, relationships, faith, and calling.

Watch the two-part pitch video below for a brief overview of all four projects.

Black Melodies is a musical documentary series that explores the artistic journeys of young, black, and gifted musicians in America’s most artistic cities. The pilot was co-produced with OpenTV (Brown Girls).  The pilot screened at the Chicago Cultural Center and Party Noire and was met with positive reception.

The Resistance is a live sketch comedy show performed monthly at the People Improv Theater in NYC that authentically and comedically explore the most relevant social issues of our culture and how it affects black life. Each week an ensemble group of actors and writers come together to create 3-4 original sketches and comedic musical numbers. #TheResistance was inspired and follows the vein of the iconic sketch comedy show "In Living Color." The show also follows the format of a Second City Revue with the politically charged pro-blackness of the 1960's PBS variety show "SOUL!"

Art is Charisma is based in Chicago and comedically explores the life of Charisma James, a late 20’s singer who attempts to balance her singing career with a unfulfilling relationship, draining day job, and awkward friendships. The show is an authentic portrayal of black millennials who  are chasing their artistic dreams, but feel weighed down by the hardships of life. I created the show as a way to tell my story of a professional actor/singer in Chicago who has always had to work a crazy variety of day jobs just to stay afloat.

Connect Group tells the story of four women from different walks of life who join a church connect group and are transformed by faith and sisterhood. "Connect Group" is a fresh TV comedy that authentically tells the stories of young Christian women at the interchange of black culture, sisterhood, and faith. Connect Group is currently in development and will be going into production in early 2019.
